Dedication of the Caritas Christi Courtyard

On Wednesday, the Year 10 students had the privilege of hosting a day of celebration with the Sisters of Charity as they marked their patronal feast day in their 180th year in Australia. The students shared a beautiful liturgy incorporating the blessing and naming of our new courtyard – the Caritas Christi Courtyard. The name has been chosen to honour the Sisters of Charity who have as their motto CARITAS CHRISTI Urget Nos (impelled by the love of Christ). In the afternoon, the Sisters launched a new history of the Congregation, A Ministry of Love: A History of the Sisters of Charity. This will be a great source of information and inspiration for those of us who now have the privilege to continue the work of the ministries they commenced on their arrival in Sydney in 1838.

The College gifted to the Sisters a simple wooden cross crafted from timber that grew in the very space that the Caritas Christi Courtyard now occupies. The Cross was made by our recently retired property manager, Mr Michael Bouchard. The Cross was given to commemorate the 180th anniversary of the arrival of the Sisters.
