Boarder Lines

This term has flown by and we are already in the midst of assessment activities and preparation for Camps/Retreats.  Each parent/carer will have received information about these camps/retreats, and a reminder please, that you are required to sign the permission forms.  We can print out your signed copy to hand into Student Services, but we do ask that you read the information available for the relevant camp/retreat and then sign the form.  We are fortunate to experience camps and retreats this year, and in particular for our Year 7 Boarders it is a great opportunity to thrive in the community experience and show how much you have learnt living together in these few weeks.  I will be attending camp along with the SVC Boarders whilst our SCEGGS students enjoy the peace and quiet being on their own for two nights - I know for a fact they are already planning their menu!!

All travel has been organised for the end of Term 1 and beginning of Term 2, but please remember if there are any changes to inform both myself and your relevant Boarding coordinator, so we can cancel/update any tickets.

This year we were fortunate enough to have Linda, Grace and Susan working with the Year 7/8/9 Boarders.  Unfortunately, Linda has injured her back and has been unable to work in Boarding for the last few weeks.  For those who know Linda, you know how much this pains her to not be here working on the floor with the juniors.  I am unsure of her return date and am thankful for your patience when you call and wonder which staff member is on.  To help you, Grace works from Sunday afternoon until Wednesday morning and Susan is on Saturday and Sunday.  We endeavour to have not too many staff in to replace Linda and again, am thankful for everyone’s patience.

Hannah, our Deputy Head of Boarding, has weekends full of activities for the Boarders to participate in.  A few weeks ago, all Boarders were invited to participate in a night of pampering.  As you can see from the pictures, it was a hit!  They made their own face masks from scratch and enjoyed the time to relax and unwind.

On a separate note - could we kindly ask that Boarders are limited in their pocket money during the week, particularly for the juniors.  The Year 7 and Year 8 Boarders are allowed to go to Woolworths only once during the week (Monday to Thursday), but it seems that this has been enjoyed immensely.  We are discouraging any food in bedrooms to limit any form of insects appearing.  If you feel that your daughter needs a dietary requirement, please contact your Boarding coordinator and talk it through.  They are the best person to inform you what food intake has been occurring whilst being in Boarding.  With seven meals a day, it baffles me why Woolworths loves Boarders!!

Boarders are always thankful to 'day parents' who provide lifts to Sport and share their house on a weekend.  Please as a gentle reminder, Boarders are not to travel in cars whose drivers are  on 'P plates' or anyone under the age of 20, unless it is their sibling.  If this is an issue, please contact the Boarding coordinator to discuss.  Their safety, wellbeing and care is our highest priority.

Yours in Boarding

Ms Maryanne O'Donoghue
Director of Boarding
