2020 Academic Results

Dear Parents and Carers,

In a year that has had more than its fair share of bad news and disappointments, it is with particular pride, excitement and delight that I present to you the distinguished scholars of the Class of 2020.

Everything about 2020 is already memorable, but among the most abiding memories of the year will be the extraordinary fortitude, resilience and goodwill shared by the Graduating Class of 2020. Not only did they face the disruption caused by the lockdown of Sydney in April-May, they faced disruption to the many rites of passage fondly associated with the final year of high school, and they faced disruption to many of the highly anticipated post-secondary plans they had been cherishing. Under that pressure it would have been understandable if students simply surrendered into the angst and lament of the year. In the true Vinnies’ Spirit, our Year 12 cohort however, found the strength to not only persevere, but to prosper as these outstanding results reflect. I could not be more proud of the 2020 graduands; the ones named here as High Achievers and ones whose triumph over adversity will always remain private. This fine group of young women graduate into uncertain times, but they leave St Vincent’s informed, transformed and empowered by their education.

I also acknowledge the dedication of the teachers of the Year 12 Class. Their pedagogy and assessment methods had to be swiftly and radically changed as we went into the Foxford Program. The impact of these changes was most profound in subjects that had a practical component such as Music, Dance, Drama, Design and Technology, Visual Arts and Textiles. Our teachers managed this superbly while continuing the momentum of learning required of an HSC student, and meeting the social/emotional needs of their classes. To the great credit of teachers and students in these subjects, the College still received significant NESA nominations and excellent results despite the changes they had to adapt to from midway through their courses.

This was our year of Service of the Poor. The great minds and generous spirits of our Year 12 Class prevailed as they found COVID-safe ways to continue to be of service in the face of increased and unexpected poverty within our own community and beyond. In doing so they consolidated their place in Vinnies’ history. The Class of 2020 leave with the respect and affection of the entire Community.

Enjoy reading the very good news contained in this publication. Early next year we will publish a much more detailed analysis.

Merry Christmas.

Yours sincerely,

Anne Fry
Principal
