From the Principal, Mrs Anne Fry

Dear Parents and Carers

Glad tidings to each of you and your families as we prepare to celebrate the holy days and holidays of Christmas.  The term has finished for students and staff, and tomorrow the office will shut until 10 January.  During that time, if you need to contact the College, please email me at frya@stvincents.nsw.edu.au and I will get back to you as soon as possible.  I am going to have a break but I will check the email once a day to pick up any urgent business.

I take this chance to thank you for your support throughout 2021.  It has taken a real community commitment to 'generosity of spirit' to ensure we were able to operate the College as effectively as we did whether in Foxford or face-to-face mode.  The staff and students showed great agility and creativity, while our families exercised great trust in our decisions.  I hope that next year is smooth sailing, but a more realistic perspective might be to be prepared again for some disruption and retain the mindset needed to respond quickly to changing circumstances.  The new guidelines for schools for Term 1 2022 will be released on 17 January and I will certainly share those with the community as soon as practicable.

Since the end of term I have received the resignations of Ms Emma Palmer, going to Wenona and Mr Robert Weaver, moving to Rouse Hill Anglican College.  Both of these teachers will be greatly missed by their students and colleagues, but will be with us at the start of the year unless we have been able to make appointments of new teachers.

I wish you a Covid-safe Christmas.  May the long awaited reunions of family and friends bring great joy to your families.

Light looked down and saw the darkness.
"I will go there", said Light.
Peace looked down and saw war.
"I will go there", said Peace.
Love looked down and saw hatred.
"I will go there", said Love.

So God,
the Lord of Light
the Prince of Peace
the King of Love,
came down and crept in beside us.

Merry Christmas,

Rest and rejoice,

Yours sincerely

Anne Fry

TERM 1 SPORT 2022

Draft team lists for all sports have been placed on the Sports noticeboard and on the College website. These will be confirmed after the first week of training next term.  All new Year 7 and any other new students will be trialed in the first week back next term.

We are still looking for a few Year 8 Volleyball players for next year.  Please email Ms Jacobs if you are interested.

All competitions don’t start until Saturday 12 February 2022.  Draws will be uploaded once we receive them.  Training times won't be finalised until early next year when the university students know their timetables.  Please keep up your fitness over the holidays so that you are ready to start competition in Week 2.

TILDESLEY TENNIS TOURNAMENT 2022

Sunday 13 March and Monday 14 March 2022

If you would like to trial for the SVC team to compete in this prestigious tournament, please make sure you you are training over the holidays.  We will be running trials at the start of next term, but all players must be training and playing as much as possible to prepare.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL AND IGSA SWIMMING TEAM

Last week we ran the swimming championship races in the College pool as we had to cancel the Inter-House Carnival due to Covid restrictions.  We still had great House spirit and very competitive races for Age Champions.

Reminder: DARTA - Parent Webinar via Zoom 20 January 2022

Parenting, alcohol, parties and sleepovers in Year 9:  Why this year group can be so challenging and the importance of putting things into place now.

Thursday 20 January 2022 - 7.00pm-8.30pm (AEDT)

If you're a parent of a child about to begin Year 9, it's important to prepare yourself for issues around sleepovers, parties and gatherings.  Putting things into place now can prevent potential problems in the year (and years) ahead.

This presentation will focus on the positive influence that parents can have on their child’s drinking behaviour, even during adolescence, as well as the barriers that they may face during this time.  Peer influence is a significant issue at this time and it is important for parents to have clear rules and boundaries in the area of sleepovers, parties, gatherings and alcohol.

This presentation will also examine the latest data on Australian teen drinking behaviour and the growing evidence on the risks associated with this practice.
